Taharqa was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 7th c. BC during the Third Intermediate period from the state of 25th Dynasty. Died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Greatest of the Kushite pharaohs. Backed Hezekiah's revolt against Sennacherib; the Bible mentions him by name. Defeated by the Assyrians under Esarhaddon and Ashurbanipal, he retreated to Nubia and died there, last of the Black Pharaohs.
