Ramesses III was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 12th c. BC during the New Kingdom period from the state of 20th Dynasty. Was assassinated.
Historical Note
Last great pharaoh of the New Kingdom. Smashed the Sea Peoples on land at Djahy and at sea in the Delta — saving Egypt while every other Bronze Age palace burned. Murdered in his own harem; a CT scan of his mummy reveals the throat cut to the spine.
