Amasis was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 6th c. BC during the Late Period period from the state of 26th Dynasty. Died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Soldier who deposed his predecessor in a coup, then ruled forty-four years of peace and prosperity. Welcomed Greek traders to Naukratis, married a Greek wife, and joked through the dignity of pharaonic rule. Herodotus liked him; the Persians did not.
