Piye

the Nubian Conqueror

Piye was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 8th c. BC during the Third Intermediate period from the state of 25th Dynasty. Died of natural causes.

Historical Note

Kushite king who, hearing that the Delta princes had usurped the worship of Amun, sailed downriver and conquered Egypt as far as Memphis. Bathed his army in the Nile to purify them, then went home to Napata with his hands full of horses.
