Egyptian Pharaohs
Sobekneferu
First Female Pharaoh
Sobekneferu was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 18th c. BC during the Middle Kingdom period from the state of 12th Dynasty. Died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Daughter of Amenemhat III. Took the full pharaonic titulary as a woman when her brother died without heirs — the first female king of Egypt, three centuries before Hatshepsut. Ruled barely four years; the 12th Dynasty died with her.
