Shishunaga's Fall

The Battle of Shishunaga's Fall was fought in 345 BC in Ganges Valley during the Mahajanapada era, a ambush engagement against Shishunaga. It ended in victory for the Indian side.

Historical Note

Mahapadma Nanda — son of a barber, perhaps a Sudra — overthrew the Shishunaga dynasty in a sudden coup at Pataliputra. He killed the noble lineage to a man and built the empire the Mauryas would inherit. The Puranas call him 'the second Parashurama' for the slaughter of kshatriyas.
