Agathocles was a Greek king active in the 4th c. BC during the Hellenistic period based in Syracuse. Died: poisoned.
Historical Note
Potter's son who clawed his way to tyranny in Syracuse. When Carthage besieged him, he sailed an army to Africa and burned his ships behind him — the first Greek to invade Africa.
