Greek Battles

Raphia

The Battle of Raphia was fought in 217 BC in Canaan during the Hellenistic era, a land engagement against Seleucids. It ended in victory for the Greek side.

Historical Note

Ptolemy IV defeated Antiochus III in the largest Hellenistic battle, but the Egyptian phalanx — now half native — emboldened a Coptic revolt that nearly broke the Ptolemaic kingdom.
