The Battle of Marathon was fought in 490 BC in Attica during the Classical era, a land engagement against Persia. It ended in victory for the Greek side.
Historical Note
10,000 Athenians and Plataeans charged at the double to negate Persian archers. The legendary messenger who ran to Athens with news of victory died on arrival.
