The Battle of Gaugamela was fought in 331 BC in Mesopotamia during the Hellenistic era, a land engagement against Persia. It ended in victory for the Greek side.
Historical Note
Darius leveled the battlefield for his scythed chariots. Alexander's oblique advance made them irrelevant. The Persian Empire effectively ended here.
