Egyptian Battles

Cos

The Battle of Cos was fought in 261 BC in Aegean during the Ptolemaic era, a naval engagement against Antigonids. It ended in defeat for the Egyptian side.

Historical Note

Antigonus II Gonatas of Macedon shattered the Ptolemaic fleet off the island of Cos. The defeat ended a generation of Egyptian dominance in the Aegean and gave Macedon the upper hand at sea for the rest of the third century.
