Egyptian Battles
Eleusis
The Battle of Eleusis was fought in 168 BC in Delta during the Ptolemaic era, a land engagement against Seleucids. It ended in a stalemate.
Historical Note
Antiochus IV had invaded Egypt and was within sight of Alexandria when the Roman ambassador Popilius Laenas met him at Eleusis. He handed the Seleucid a decree and drew a circle around him in the dust: 'Decide before you step out.' Antiochus marched home. Egypt was saved — by Rome.
