Egyptian Battles
Cyrene (Apries)
The Battle of Cyrene (Apries) was fought in 570 BC in Delta during the Late Period era, a land engagement against Cyreneans. It ended in defeat for the Egyptian side.
Historical Note
Apries sent an army to subdue the Greek colony of Cyrene. The Greek hoplites destroyed it. The surviving Egyptian veterans mutinied on the march home, raised Apries' general Amasis as a rival pharaoh — and the dynasty began to crack.
