Vidudabha

Slayer of the Shakyas

Vidudabha was an Indian king active in the 5th c. BC during the Mahajanapada period from the state of Kosala. Died of natural causes.

Historical Note

Son of Prasenajit by a Shakya slave-woman the clan had palmed off on him as a princess. When he discovered the insult, he led an army to Kapilavastu and annihilated the Shakyas — the Buddha's own kinsmen — to a man.
