Indian Battles
Kalinga
The Battle of Kalinga was fought in 261 BC in Eastern India during the Maurya era, a land engagement against Kalinga. It ended in victory for the Indian side.
Historical Note
Ashoka conquered the last unconquered kingdom in his sphere at the cost — by his own count — of 100,000 dead and 150,000 deported. The carnage broke him. The next edict announces his conversion to the Dharma.
