Mausolus was a Greek satrap active in the 4th c. BC during the Classical period based in Caria. Died of natural causes.

Historical Note

Persian satrap of Caria who ruled as an independent Hellenic king from Halicarnassus. His widow built his tomb — the Mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders — and gave the word for tomb to every later language.
