Iphicrates
Father of the Peltasts
Iphicrates was a Greek strategos active in the 4th c. BC during the Classical period based in Athens. Died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Reformed the Athenian peltast into a long-spear, light-shield infantryman that outfought hoplites. Annihilated a Spartan mora near Lechaeum in 390 BC, ending the myth of Spartan invincibility.
