Hieron I was a Greek tyrant active in the 5th c. BC during the Classical period based in Syracuse. Died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Tyrant of Syracuse who broke an Etruscan fleet at Cumae (474 BC) and patronized Pindar, Aeschylus, and Simonides at his court. Greek Sicily's first golden age.
