Amun

the Hidden One — King of the Gods

Amun is an Egyptian god of sovereignty, associated with the realm of heaven. Amun belongs to the first generation of the pantheon. Roughly equivalent to Jupiter in cross-pantheon mapping. Symbolised by the ram horns.

Historical Note

Originally a hidden Theban deity; fused with Ra into Amun-Ra he became king of all gods and patron of empire. Akhenaten tried to suppress him and failed; within a generation Amun-Ra was back, and Akhenaten was the heretic.
