Neptune

Deus Maris — God of the Sea

Neptune is a Roman god of sea, associated with the realm of sea. Neptune belongs to the olympian generation of the pantheon. Roughly equivalent to Poseidon in cross-pantheon mapping. Symbolised by the trident.

Historical Note

Neptune's festival, the Neptunalia, was held in midsummer. Romans rarely ventured far to sea, so Neptune was less prominent than his Greek counterpart Poseidon.
