Dionysus

God of Wine, Theatre and Ecstasy

Dionysus is a Greek god of wine, associated with the realm of earth. Dionysus belongs to the demigod generation of the pantheon. Roughly equivalent to Bacchus in cross-pantheon mapping. Symbolised by the thyrsus.

Historical Note

Dionysus was twice-born — first from his mother Semele (killed by Zeus's lightning), then from Zeus's thigh. He brought wine, theatre, and the concept of the afterlife to Greece from the east.
