Chinese Rulers
Zhuangzi
the Butterfly Sage
Zhuangzi was a Chinese philosopher active in the 4th c. BC during the Warring States period from the state of Song. Died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Daoist sage of Meng in Song. Dreamed he was a butterfly, then woke and was unsure which was the dream. Refused a chancellorship from Chu, preferring 'to drag my tail through the mud' like a free turtle.
