Sima Qian was a Chinese philosopher active in the 1st c. BC during the Western Han period from the state of Han. Died of natural causes.

Historical Note

Castrated by Emperor Wu for defending a disgraced general. Lived only to finish the Shiji — the foundational history of China and one of the great prose works of antiquity.
