Mencius was a Chinese philosopher active in the 4th c. BC during the Warring States period from the state of Lu. Died of natural causes.

Historical Note

Confucius's greatest interpreter, who insisted human nature is innately good — and that a king who fails his people loses the Mandate of Heaven. The first Chinese theorist of legitimate revolt.
