Fabius Maximus

the Delayer

Fabius Maximus was a statesman of the Roman Republic active in the 3rd c. BC originally from Italia. Held power for 5 years and died of natural causes.

Historical Note

'The Delayer' (Cunctator). Refused to fight Hannibal in open battle and slowly bled him by harassment — the strategy that saved Rome after Cannae.
