Siddhartha Gautama was an Indian sage active in the 5th c. BC during the Mahajanapada period from the state of Shakya. Died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Shakya prince who left palace, wife, and son at twenty-nine to seek the cause of suffering. Six years later under a fig tree at Bodh Gaya, he found the answer. Taught for forty-five years and died of poisoned alms at eighty.
