Chandragupta Maurya was an Indian emperor active in the 4th c. BC during the Maurya period from the state of Maurya. Died: renounced.
Historical Note
With Chanakya's guidance, overthrew the Nandas and built the first pan-Indian empire (321 BC). Fought Seleucus Nikator to a draw and took the Indus provinces — and 500 war elephants in exchange for one of his daughters. Abdicated and fasted to death as a Jain monk at Shravanabelagola.
