Cleon was a Greek strategos active in the 5th c. BC during the Classical period based in Athens. Was killed in battle.

Historical Note

Populist tanner and rabble-rouser who captured 292 Spartiates at Sphacteria. Lampooned by Aristophanes. Killed fighting Brasidas at Amphipolis — both commanders died there.
