Vatsyayana was an Indian scholar active in the 4th c. AD during the Gupta period from the state of Gupta. Died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Compiled the Kamasutra at Pataliputra — not a manual of pleasure but a treatise on the art of urbane Hindu living. The actual erotic section is one of seven books, and shorter than the section on stealing.
