Varuna

Keeper of Cosmic Order — Lord of the Waters

Varuna is an Indian god of sea, associated with the realm of sea. Varuna belongs to the first generation of the pantheon. Roughly equivalent to Neptune in cross-pantheon mapping. Symbolised by the noose.

Historical Note

Eldest of the Adityas, keeper of rta — the cosmic order. With his thousand eyes he sees every lie. Demoted in the Puranas from sovereign of the heavens to ruler of the western sea, a god of oaths and storms.
